Arts Based Therapy
Arts based therapy is a combination of different art forms like art, dance music, movement, theater and storytelling. Arts based therapy sessions are conducted thrice a week. Students of each class attends therapy once a week. These sessions includes games, indoor activities through play, music, dance, art class, role plays, stories etc. which develop children’s cognitive skills, expression (verbal and nonverbal), spatial awareness, motor coordination, communication skills, social behavior and group interaction.
The students enjoy the therapy sessions. The arts based therapy sessions have benefitted children in many ways. They get space to express and explore. The students who were inactive started to join gradually and became active, showed enthusiasm and participation. They opened up by expressing themselves verbally and nonverbally. Increase in vocabulary development, self confidence and awareness was observed.
The activities go hand in hand with the classroom syllabus and individual needs. The therapy supplements classroom teaching and contributes in the progress of the child.
